A wee studio update from Callander
We’ve had a few lovely messages from folks asking when our new studio will be opening, so I thought it was time for a quick update!
We’re getting there — slowly but surely! My husband and I are doing all the work ourselves to keep costs low, so progress is steady rather than speedy. Since he works full time, most of the decorating happens in the evenings and at weekends — it’s been a real team effort!
Our son popped up a few Saturdays ago to help us strip the wallpaper. It really suited Janine’s shop, but is not the vibe we’re going for in the studio so had to come off!
Health-wise, I’m still recovering from long Covid, which means I’ve got to pace myself carefully. Physical tasks like painting and lifting are a bit of a challenge just now, so my husband has been doing the heavy lifting — quite literally. He’s done an amazing job tackling the big stuff.
We’ve also discovered just how much paint it takes to freshen up a space — 35 litres of white paint and counting! But the bathroom, kitchen, and all the woodwork are now finished, so the decorating side is nearly wrapped up. Once we get the furniture in place (after he’s back from a work trip next week), we’ll be much closer to welcoming you in!
Alongside the studio, I’m keeping busy with volunteering and training. I help out at a local sewing club for vulnerable women and am also sharpening my kiltmaking skills with the fantastic team at Border Kilt Craft. Plus, I’ve been involved in a creative project up in Moray — so there’s never a dull moment.
Most of the furniture has been donated or purchased cheaply secondhand
We might be moving at a gentler pace these days, but we’re making progress every day. Thanks so much for your patience and encouragement — we’re really excited to open the doors and share the space with you soon!
